The Optolong CLS Clip Filter Canon EOS APS-C (City Light Suppression) is designed to make deep-sky objects more visible under light-polluted skies. The filter clips directly into the camera body and blocks wavelengths coming primarily from artificial light, such as sodium and mercury vapor lamps. It also greatly reduces the distracting skyglow effect.
At the same time, the CLS filter allows the primary emission lines of nebulae - OIII (496/500 nm), H-beta (486 nm), NII (654/658 nm), H-alpha (656 nm) and SII (672 nm) - to pass through without difficulty. This makes emission nebulae, planetary nebulae and supernova remnants more clearly visible both photographically and visually.
The CLS has a wider pass range than a UHC filter and is therefore ideally suited for use in light to moderately polluted areas. For unmodified DSLRs and CCD color cameras, this is an excellent filter for bringing out more contrast and detail in deep-sky photography.
Application
The Optolong CLS Clip Filter Canon EOS APS-C is ideal for:
- Photography of emission and reflection nebulae from urban areas
- Increasing contrast in deep-sky photography with Canon APS-C DSLRs
- Visual observations of nebulae and clusters under light-polluted skies
- Use in combination with other narrowband filters for added contrast
